Question by : please help me here. thanks?
i am a foreigner studying in a university here in dublin. i am just curious as i have made some irish friends(never in my life did i have any friends of the western culture since i am asian and also an introvert all my life). i am 20 years and i am curious to know about these irish friends of mine of this age group…what is their sex life like? do the majority of the students have sex outside marriage or only a minority? is it considered to be a normal thing to have sex at this age group/outside marriage…im asking also because i am very much into an irish guy and of course he is very much decent, mature, responsible, shy etc..but i wonder if he actually does have a sexual history as though he is shy, no-nonsense etc, it may be considered normal in the culture to be sexually active etc…so i am just wondering and am curious. i am in UCD anyway and we are mostly 20 years. thanks.

I’m afraid that you’ll have to ask him. But if you’re not particularly close to him, then it would be a tad inappropriate.

Many Irish people have had some sort of sexual experience by the time they are 20, but not everyone.

Isn’t it hilarious that Robbie Keane ‘cheated’ (handled the ball) twice but got caught, but Thierry Henry didnt?

Question by : Isn’t it hilarious that Robbie Keane ‘cheated’ (handled the ball) twice but got caught, but Thierry Henry didnt?
And then the Irish talk about hypocrisy! Thierry Henry did not get caught, and if you’re not caught; then fair play! It’s not like this has happened the first time in history either. And I find it particularly amusing that people are talking about recession in Ireland, and how they would have benefited from World Cup qualification; and then the Irish minister comes out and says there was injustice by the footballing authorities: the minister should shut up about injustices, and let the footy people do their talking; he should do something to fix the recession in Ireland. I could talk about numerous things during the game, such as Evra’s penalty dismissals in Dublin; or Anelka’s in Paris etc. Anyways, the British media is so hypocritical: if Rooney or Gerrard (one of the worst divers in the game) cheat, they are labeled as heroes. If a foreigner does it, he’s a cheat. Very convenient.
I know that Ireland is not included in Britain. However, they are still sympathetic towards them as compared to other ‘foreigners’. Also, don’t forget the Irish laughing when the ‘hand of “God”‘ denied us in 1986.

How DARE you. How dare you to speak the TRUTH in this section, don’t you know that the truth is FORBIDDEN around here. This section has no moral values and lacks objectivity, among other things….

If the recession is the reason why Ireland is not at the WC then how can they explain that SLOVENIA went to the WC instead of RUSSIA??? LOL

btw you won’t get any serious response for this, few insults and failed attempts to be funny but that’s more or less everything.

16 hour flight and I’m a first time flyer, any advice?

Question by Vtor: 16 hour flight and I’m a first time flyer, any advice?
Hi, I’m in California and I’m going to Dublin, Ireland to see my girlfriend. 16 hours is obviously a long ride, so any advice on how to kill time and what’s allowed on a plane (laptops, phones, PSPs, etc.) also I’d appreciate advice on going through the airports themselves (like my brother say something about going an hour before departure time to get through security, things like that.) you don’t have to write a lot but a nice helpful and detailed answer will be heavily appreciated, thank you :)

Alright, here are some tips I’ve learned over time with long, exhausting flights…

1. Sleeping makes the flight much, MUCH more bare-able. Get one of those U-shaped neck pillows and an MP3 player (fully charged), and maybe even some ear plugs.

2. Laptops are still considered “uncharted territory.” Some airlines have wifi options, some don’t. Some airlines allow laptops, some don’t. It depends on what airline you’re traveling with. But most airlines will accept laptops that have their internet function switched to off. In which case you can watch movies or do anything that doesn’t require an internet signal.

3. Phones are not allowed to be turned on during plane rides. If a flight attendant sees you using your phone they will ask you one of two things. A) To please turn it off. or B) Is your phone on airplane mode?

4. All other portable electronic devices are allowed. PSPs, Nintendo DS, Ipods, Portable cameras & camcorders.

5. Yes, it is recommended that you arrive at the airport an hour before your flight departs. If you are traveling during a Holiday (usually only Thanksgiving and Christmas) it is recommended you arrive two hours before your flight departs.

6. Bring chargers with you. Phone charger, laptop charger, etc. Pretty much everything loses power during flights. Your phone will be the most affected, phones are almost constantly looking for service up in the air- and there is never any to be found. So your phone will most likely be dead.

7. Bring a VISA or Mastercard with you. Most airlines no longer accept cash for any meals or entertainment during flights anymore. You can also buy a pre-paid VISA or Mastercard gift card at most stores… (Wal-mart, Target, K-mart, Fred Meyers, etc)

8. Eat before you get on the plane. Plane food sucks and it’s overpriced.

9. Bring a pen and paper. You’d be surprised at how much drawing and writing will entertain you when you’re on a long… drawn-out flight.

10. Buy some snacks (it’s nice to munch on a plane). Usually you can’t bring food from outside the security check point, so sadly you will probably have to buy any snacks after you pass security. Which means you’ll be paying 4$ for a bag of M&M’s (ridiculous… :/)

11. Make friends with the person you’re sitting next to on the flight. Flights go AMAZINGLY fast when you make new friends. But watch out, sometimes this backfires – as to the person can be end up being extremely annoying.

That should be about it, good luck!

Um, some help and advice when it comes to moving to Ireland?

Question by Charity H: Um, some help and advice when it comes to moving to Ireland?
ok, so I need some help and advice. I’m gonna be out of highschool pretty soon, and I’ve finally figured out where I wanna go from there. I know it seems pretty extreme, but I’d like to move around Dublin and go to college there, then to veterinary school, and hopefully permenantly reside in Ireland. I am determined to do this, even though I will only be 18. Is it possible for me to leave the US and go to Ireland for college and such, if so, how? or do I have to wait until after I finish my first 4 years here? I got a little confused with this. anyone care to enlighten me?

Visit to UK and Ireland with a day in Paris – ideas?

Question by crazyem: Visit to UK and Ireland with a day in Paris – ideas?
This will be my first holiday in Europe. I only have 7-10 days. It’ll be in early spring of next year. I like history and learning about cultures. I’m not a fan of cheesy tourist sites that are only good for being tourist sites, but if they have some other intrinsic value (historic site, really pretty views, etc) then they’re okay. I am looking at stays in Dublin, London, Edinburgh, and Paris, but would love to get out into the countryside as well. Please, anyone there or who’s been, I solicit your suggestions. What are things you deem must-see?

Best answer:

Answer by amie w
im from england. ok you weill have to stick to a very very tight schedule if you want to visit all of these places and see everything while you are there. london and paris should be easy. if you start your trip in london and see what you need to see there. book tickets for the london eye, its a huge wheel and you get the most amazing views across the capital. also check out covent garden, its a great place with cobbled streets and street entertainers. nice bistros and bars too. see if you can get some cheap theatre tickets in leicester square too. worth it!! if you like trendy nightlife try towards the east of london, hoxton etc. lots of places are in london are great historical sights but also blatant tourist traps i.e tower of london trafalger square. you can then buy return train eurostar tickets to paris and these take you straight from the center of london to centre of paris. its so much better than the plane. in paris see the louvre! when back in london (would suggest 2 nights in paris) you can get cheap flights to dublin from 2 london airports, stansted and gatwick with a company called ryanair. very cheap flights. hope this helps a bit! if you have more time and you want to see beautiful places in britain, try the west country, newquay is also great in summer and is a cool surfers hangout! everywhere is accessable by train from central london. have fun!!!

What exactly is Gaelic Football?

Question by Water Baby: What exactly is Gaelic Football?
I visited Ireland last year and absolutely fell in love with everything about it and the people there! One day, as my family and I drove the streets, we saw a mass of people dressed in blue heading from one direction down the road, and a mass of green coming from the other way to the same place. We asked a guy out the window what was going on and he yelled “Gaelic!” Of course we had no idea what he meant, so we went to a pub. The game was being broad casted (Dublin and I think Kerry….I’m not sure) and we watched it. I can safely say that it is one of the toughest sports out there, but I simply fell in love with it. I’d sure like to learn more about it and its history, but I live in the US so that’s not so easy. Also, can’t really watch it on TV either. Any help?

Answer by greenorlagh
It is broadcast on Setanta around the world. I know lots who watch the games in New York and all over the States.

You can find out about the history of the game online. Plenty of websites. Maybe you’d also like to know about hurling and camogie too.

Interestingly enough the world handball championships have just finished in the US and were won by an Irishman.

All cities have spots where you need to be careful, Upper Gardiner street is one such place with that reputation. I’ve stayed there a few times and I’ve found it to be fine.
