And then the Irish talk about hypocrisy! It’s not like this has happened the first time in history either. And I find it particularly amusing that people are talking about recession in Ireland, and how they would have benefited from World Cup qualification; and then the Irish minister comes out and says there was injustice by the footballing authorities: the minister should shut up about injustices and do something to fix the recession in Ireland. I could talk about numerous things during the game, such as Evra’s penalty dismissals in Dublin; or Anelka’s in Paris etc. Anyways, the British media is so hypocritical: if Rooney or Gerrard (one of the worst divers in the game) cheat, they are labeled as heroes. If a non-Britisher (other than Ireland) does it, he’s a cheat. Very convenient. Don’t forget the Irish laughing when the ‘hand of “God”‘ denied us in 1986.

Whats really funny is that if there are 2 players who are non divers they are Gerrard and Rooney, they are pure hard workers. Anelkas “penalty claim” wasnt a penalty, Anelka knew that as you could see.

Protests erupt across Europe against web piracy treaty
By Erik Kirschbaum and Irina Ivanova | Reuters – 4 hrs agoBERLIN/SOFIA (Reuters) – Tens of thousands of protesters took part in rallies across Europe on Saturday against an international anti-piracy agreement they fear will curb their freedom to download movies and music for free and encourage Internet surveillance.

More than 25,000 demonstrators braved freezing temperatures in German cities to march against the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) while 4,000 Bulgarians in Sofia rallied against the agreement designed to strengthen the legal framework for intellectual property rights.

There were thousands more – mostly young – demonstrators at other high-spirited rallies despite snow and freezing temperatures in cities including Warsaw, Prague, Slovakia, Bucharest, Vilnius, Paris, Brussels and Dublin.

“We don’t feel safe anymore. The Internet was one of the few places where we could act freely,” said Monica Tepelus, a 26-year-old programmer protesting with about 300 people in Bucharest.

Opposition to ACTA in Eastern Europe is especially strong and spreading rapidly. Protesters have compared it to the Big Brother-style surveillance used by former Communist regimes. Downloading films and music is also a popular way for many young Eastern Europeans to obtain free entertainment.

“Stop ACTA!” read a banner carried by one of the 2,000 marchers in central Berlin, where temperatures were -10 Celsius.

“It’s not acceptable to sacrifice the rights of freedom for copyrights,” Thomas Pfeiffer, a leader of the Greens party in Munich where 16,000 people protested against ACTA, was quoted telling Focus magazine’s online edition on Saturday.

Governments of eight nations including Japan and the United Stated signed an agreement in October aiming to cut copyright and trademark theft. The signing was hailed as a step toward bringing ACTA into effect.

Negotiations over ACTA have been taking place for several years. Some European countries have signed ACTA but it has not yet been signed or ratified in many countries. Germany’s Foreign Ministry said on Friday it would hold off on signing.

In Sofia, most of 4,000 demonstrators on Saturday were youths. Some wore the grinning, moustachioed Guy Fawkes masks that have become a symbol of the hacker group Anonymous and other global protest movements.

ACTA aims to cut trademark theft and tackle other online piracy. But the accord has sparked concerns, especially in Eastern European countries as well as in Germany which is sensitive about its history with the Gestapo and Stasi secret police, over online censorship and increased surveillance.

“We want ACTA stopped,” Yanko Petrov, who attended the rally in Sofia, told state broadcaster BNT. “We have our own laws, we don’t need international acts.”

SURVEILLANCE

The protesters are concerned that free downloading of movies and music might lead to prison sentences if the ACTA was ratified by parliaments. THEY ALSO FEAR THAT EXCHANGING MATERIAL ON THE INTERNET MAY BECOME A CRIME and say the accord will allow for massive online surveillance.

In Warsaw, some 500 protesters demonstrated, brandishing placards saying “No to ACTA,” “Down with censorship” and “Free Internet.” Several hundred turned out in the southwestern city of Wroclaw, the Baltic port of Szczecin and Poznan.

In Paris, about 1,000 people marched ACTA. “It’s a demonstration without precedent because it’s taking place in all of Europe at the same time,” said Jeremie Zimmermann, spokesman for Internet freedom group Quadrature du Net.

In Prague, about 1,500 people marched against ACTA. Some waved black pirate flags with white skull and crossed bones, and others wore white masks of the Guy Fawkes character.

Some carried banners against the ACTA treaty such as “Freedom to the Internet” and “ACTA attacks Freedom,” and chanted “Freedom, Freedom.” Smaller gatherings took place in other Czech cities.

The Czech government has held off on ratification of the ACTA treaty, saying it needs to be analyzed.

Romanian state-news agency Agerpres said 2,000 people protested in the Transylvanian city of Cluj against ACTA, carrying banners that said: “Paws off the Internet.”

In Croatia, protests were held in Zagreb, Split and Rijeka, with demonstrators, some masked, carrying banners reading “Stop internet censorship.”

A group identifying itself as Anonymous hacked into the webpage of Croatian president Ivo Josipovic, who has defended copyright measures. It remained unavailable for several hours.

It also crashed the pages of ZAMP, a Croatian professional service that looks after the protection of composers’ rights and copyright, and the Institute of Croatian Music.

This same agreement will apply just as much in the U.S. and Canada.

Question by : How Many countries from Around the World are Englands Friend ?
Im trying to find out If England has Any friends if there somewhere is a country which do Admit we love the English.

for example Scottish people if you ever visited scotland dream about thier independency and there is no many people in Scotland saying good word about the English unless theyre english born in Scotland. Also most of Scottish people still remember Slavery. today Scotland has to share their oil 20billion £/year and powerty in scotland is higher then in england.

Irish people they were enslaved by England years before Africans. half of Irish population was killed and England Took part of their land. thats why many irish people left Ireland for the US of A.
real irish people arent welcome in Northern ireland nor are the English in Dublin or Cork

Canada. England and France made Canadians hate each other Quebec wanted to be on their Own for many years just cuz they hate the Queen. there is no many canadians unless theyre uneducated saying good word about the English or the French. why England and France doesnt leave Canada?

China Didnt Forget how they ended after the English visited their land. took years for China to recover. few months ago british man druge dealer was caught in China the chinesse executed him even after the British PM asked the Chinesse not to do that. The Chinesse Ambassador in london answered China didnt forget.

Russia. England always tried to have at least little influence in Russian Government but never worked out very well even today. Sarkozy went to Russia Looking for Bussines cuz of recession the same Italians and Germans did. England didnt cuz they know Russia wont do any business with England. England use russian GAS but england doesnt buy it from Russia just from France.

even French and Germans dont like England just go to Paris or any other small town speak french and ask local peeople the French dont like England cuz of the Past.
German Nazis were in the Beginning sponsored by England.

England killed many million African people during slave trade people in England say the Slave trade ended 200 years ago trade yes but slavery not. till 80′s most popular Conservatives(political Party) quote “want nigger for your negihbour vote labour” the slavery in england for black africans ended in 80′s today england use eastern europians as a slave.

only One country Managed to get rid of English influence in their government the US of A. many Americans still remember how good towards them The English were. Obama has removed statue of Churchil from White house to show his Love to England.
in England in the pubs you hear sometimes Stupid Yaks in American
i always supported Americans just cuz they managed to Make their Country Independent and Free

Australians have English PM and their land Belong to her Majesty the Queen of England did they forget theyre only criminals sent to Australia for stealing Bread in England?

Son of margaret Thatcher went to New Guinea in 2004 he brought over there SAS he planned to kill New Guinean Government cuz they refused to give Oil for free

India Millions of Indians died during Englands Invasion when England took control of Indian government they were stealing for many years when finally England had enough they made Indians fight each other, another millions of people died.

and we could speak about many many many more countries everything is in history Books

so whos the Friend of England today really? what will happen if recession in England will never end and in few years England become very poor ? where would they english go looking for work?

Would I have a chance at getting into Cambridge?

Question by : Would I have a chance at getting into Cambridge?
I’m 16 years old and I live in Ireland. I’m certainly ambitious. I usually get A’s and B’s in exams. I want to study history, it’s my best class and a personal hobby of mine. I already have a cousin in Cambridge. I play rugby and I’ve represented Leinster at junior academy level. I also play cricket, sail and row. I have done voluntary work for the Royal British Legion in Dublin and the Irish Labour Party. I’m a practicing Church of Ireland Christian. My parents would be able to afford to send me there. I’m doing my Leaving Cert (Irish version of A Levels) in two years if I worked really hard in those two years would I have a chance of getting in?

I want to live in Ireland?

Question by kmwarrior33: I want to live in Ireland?
I’m only 16 (American living in New York).. going into 11th grade, but I really want to live in Ireland when im older. Ive been there once before as a young kid and im going again in 2 years. I have distant relatives there and most of my family descends from Ireland.. I was just wondering if in the future it would be hard to make a steady income doing something in Ireland and living there. I am very fond of the Irish culture and love the spirit of Irish people. In college, Im hoping to major in history… so is there any way that I could actually live in Ireland after college. If so, what areas would you suggest living in? I love love love Kerry (Killarney, etc.), and I’ve read in many places that Dublin isnt a great place to actually live. So, does anyone have any advice?

Best answer:

Answer by Bazzer239
I’m gonna be biased and say Cork b/c I live here! You away from the noise and congestion that is Dublin and you’re an hours drive away from Killarney if you love sight seeing and nature. Cork is ideal as it has alot of what Dublin has, but with less confusion and hastle and congestion. Cork has 2 colleges (CIT and UCC) and you can do your majors in history here, as far as I know, Kerry doesn’t have a college!

Standard of living is high, I think we have the highest wage paid per hour in the EU (€8.65) so you’d really want to have a lot of money saved up before you come over. Hopefully, the economies will be back up and running so you won’t have trouble finding a job and believe me when the jobs are good, they’re great! Ireland is thinking about bringing back in its college fee’s (we have free 3rd level ed) so if you need to, save up for that too! Just keep your head down and you’ll be grand!

Hope I helped! :)

Debating on where I want to study abroad…?

Question by <33: Debating on where I want to study abroad…?
So I’m studying fashion right now and with the career I want to have after college it will allow me to travel to fashion-y places such as Paris, Milan and London. If I have the opportunity to basically travel somewhere through my school for free or really cheap at the very least, then I want to go somewhere I might not have the opportunity to later in life.

I’m saving my free electives for this trip so I’m able to pick easy classes that don’t necessarily have to coincide with my major. Anyways these are my choices thus far (in order from the one i REALLY want to visit, to least):

Scotland: Edinburgh or Stirling
Ireland: Dublin or Limerick
Australia: Melbourne, New Castle or Sydney
England: London or Westminster.

Has anyone visited these areas and/or knows about which ones aren’t the safest. I want to go somewhere that has pretty landscapes, lots of history, a good university and I can still hit the bars and have fun. I’m not the biggest beach person which is why I’m sort of iffy with Australia.

Thanks!

Go to Scotland. You will feel like God has painted it himself and just put the human beings in there. Beautiful is an understatement for Scotland. Out of this world landscapes, good universities, lots of history and you can listen to the bagpiper and have a shot of scotch. You made me nostalgic :(

i am a foreigner studying in a university here in dublin. i am just curious as i have made some irish friends(never in my life did i have any friends of the western culture since i am asian and also an introvert all my life). i am 20 years and i am curious to know about these irish friends of mine of this age group…what is their sex life like? do the majority of the students have sex outside marriage or only a minority? is it considered to be a normal thing to have sex at this age group/outside marriage…im asking also because i am very much into an irish guy and of course he is very much decent, mature, responsible, shy etc..but i wonder if he actually does have a sexual history as though he is shy, no-nonsense etc, it may be considered normal in the culture to be sexually active etc…so i am just wondering and am curious. i am in UCD anyway and we are mostly 20 years. thanks.

I’m afraid that you’ll have to ask him. But if you’re not particularly close to him, then it would be a tad inappropriate.

Many Irish people have had some sort of sexual experience by the time they are 20, but not everyone.

Visit to UK and Ireland with a day in Paris – ideas?

Question by crazyem: Visit to UK and Ireland with a day in Paris – ideas?
This will be my first holiday in Europe. I only have 7-10 days. It’ll be in early spring of next year. I like history and learning about cultures. I’m not a fan of cheesy tourist sites that are only good for being tourist sites, but if they have some other intrinsic value (historic site, really pretty views, etc) then they’re okay. I am looking at stays in Dublin, London, Edinburgh, and Paris, but would love to get out into the countryside as well. Please, anyone there or who’s been, I solicit your suggestions. What are things you deem must-see?

Best answer:

Answer by amie w
im from england. ok you weill have to stick to a very very tight schedule if you want to visit all of these places and see everything while you are there. london and paris should be easy. if you start your trip in london and see what you need to see there. book tickets for the london eye, its a huge wheel and you get the most amazing views across the capital. also check out covent garden, its a great place with cobbled streets and street entertainers. nice bistros and bars too. see if you can get some cheap theatre tickets in leicester square too. worth it!! if you like trendy nightlife try towards the east of london, hoxton etc. lots of places are in london are great historical sights but also blatant tourist traps i.e tower of london trafalger square. you can then buy return train eurostar tickets to paris and these take you straight from the center of london to centre of paris. its so much better than the plane. in paris see the louvre! when back in london (would suggest 2 nights in paris) you can get cheap flights to dublin from 2 london airports, stansted and gatwick with a company called ryanair. very cheap flights. hope this helps a bit! if you have more time and you want to see beautiful places in britain, try the west country, newquay is also great in summer and is a cool surfers hangout! everywhere is accessable by train from central london. have fun!!!
